Max L. Phillips, Ed.D. Named a Professional of the Year in Education
Mr. Phillips is a respected former classroom teacher and athletic coach
FORT THOMAS, AZ, August 2, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Max L. Phillips, School Improvement Director for Fort Thomas Unified Schools, has been named a Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Education. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.
With more than four decades of professional experience in the field of education, Mr. Phillips is a respected former classroom teacher and athletic coach. He also has 13 years of experience in administration. After retiring twice, he returned to the Fort Thomas Unified Schools as a school improvement director. His position entails facilitating the new school improvement programs he recently established. To accomplish this, he helps students with behavorial issues, monitors the district's grants, conducts meetings with teachers, administrative staff and school leadership teams, and develops an educational infrastructure within the district.
In recognition of his work, Mr. Phillips has received a plethora of awards and formal recognitions for both teaching and coaching throughout the course of his career. He attributes his success to his passion for education and desire to make a difference in the lives of children.
In an interview with Cambridge Who's Who, Mr. Phillips reflected on his career: "I am most proud of helping to turn around a small high school and an elementary school in Arizona. Both had lost their direction and I helped create change in the students." He also had to remove some of the staff in order to effect positive change yet retained positive relationships with many of them.
Mr. Phillips holds an Ed.D. and a master of education, both in educational leadership, and a Bachelor of Science in elementary education. He earned Bachelor's degree from Arizona State University and the other two degrees from Northern Arizona University. In addition, he holds an Arizona principal certificate and an Arizona teaching certificate in kindergarten through 12th grade. His numerous professional affiliations include the Thatcher Teachers Association, Eastern Pinal County Literacy Council, Arizona Coaches Association, and Arizona School Boards Association. Mr. Phillips, who was a Bishop in the Mormon Church for five years, also does statewide public speaking. He has 37 grandchildren.
