Dr. Julio Valdivia-Silva is an expert in geomicrobiology, oncology, microgravity and astrobiology

MOFFETT FIELD, CA, July 1, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Julio E. Valdivia-Silva, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Researcher at Ames Research Center, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in research.

Dr. Valdivia-Silva is a research professional who is passionate about his positive contributions to future generations, especially in the field of cancer research. He was working as a doctor in Peru when he was contacted by researchers regarding his work in microbiology; subsequently, he was approached for employment by NASA. He is now an associate researcher at NASA's Ames Research Center, where he is tasked with investigating key projects, such as exploring the effects that space has on cancer and its treatment, and looking for life on Mars. His areas of expertise include geomicrobiology, oncology, microgravity and astrobiology.

In addition to working at Ames Research Center, Dr. Valdivia-Silva utilizes his knowledge in connection with a number of other organizations. He is honored to be affiliated with Singularity University, which strives to connect, educate and inspire professionals who develop sophisticated technologies to address humanity's biggest challenges. Dr. Valdivia-Silva is also a co-director and founding member of Biosustentare Company, which promotes the protection of the environment. Furthermore, he is a founding member of the Immunology Research Group and the Peruvian Academy of Molecular Medicine, an organization that aims to support young students of health sciences, as well as Edhucasalud, an association which promotes human rights.

Dr. Valdivia-Silva's work is based on his extensive educational foundation. In 2003, he earned an MD from the Universidad Nacional San Agustin in Peru. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in astrobiology and a second Ph.D. in biomedical sciences at the Nuclear Sciences Institute and Biomedical Research Institute respectively, both of them at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico. Dr. Valdivia-Silva has also completed postdoctoral work in the space science division of NASA Ames Research Center. He plans to continue using his knowledge for the benefit of others in the years to come.
