HALLSTEAD, PA, May 13, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marie A. Williams, MSN, FNP-C, Certified Family Nurse Practitioner at UHS, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in nursing.

Ms. Williams worked as a staff nurse for many years and then as a charge nurse and unit coordinator for a busy medical/surgical telemetry unit. Currently a certified family nurse practitioner, Marie has been a registered nurse for 34 years, specializing in internal medicine for most of her nursing career. In 2005, she began working as a nurse practitioner in hemodialysis, which is the process of removing waste products from blood. At UHS, Ms. Williams cares for more than 100 patients every week and oversees their hemodialysis care. She attributes her success to her caring, hard work and persistence. Ms. Williams became involved in her profession through her interest in health and wellness, and desire to help others. Ms. Williams has mentored many new nurses over the years, her advice to new nurses would be to keep their foci on the patient.

In 2005, Ms. Williams received a Master of Science in nursing from Binghamton University. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Syracuse University. She is pursuing a post master's certificate as a family psychiatric nurse practitioner at SUNY Upstate Medical Center. She is a member of The Nurse Practitioner Association New York State, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, American Nephrology Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau International. In her spare time, Ms. Williams works with various special needs populations. Looking ahead, she intends to become certified as a psychiatric nurse practitioner and continue her work with special needs populations, including hemodialysis patients.
