Kim E. Armstrong, Ph.D. Honored for Proficiency in Student Affairs
Kim E. Armstrong, Ph.D. is a student support professional for Black Hawk College

MOLINE, IL, March 26, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ --Kim E. Armstrong, Ph.D., Assistant Dean of Student Support Services for Black Hawk College, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in student affairs.

Drawing on 17 years of experience in student services, Dr. Armstrong proudly lends her talents to Black Hawk College. Now celebrating her 12th year with the school, Dr. Armstrong excels in overseeing diversity as well as students and community affairs. She has administrative oversight of the Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, all clubs and organizations, and programs for minority students. Overall, she has worked in the fields of education, research, clinical neuropsychology and administration for 27 years. Dr. Armstrong notes that she initially became interested in her profession because she has a passion for science and wanted to help students, especially minority students, in the areas of mathematics and science. She acknowledges her parents, Dr. Willie and Dr. Prince Armstrong for her commitment to educational excellence.

Dr. Armstrong holds a Ph.D. in neuropsychology from Howard University, earned in 1992. She completed post-doctoral training at Northwestern Medical School and the University of Illinois. Her work achievements thus far have not gone unnoticed - she received The Women's Connection 2009 Athena Business Women's Award, which is presented to women who excel in their business or profession and make a significant difference in their community and the 2009 Phi Theta Kappa Hallmark Distinguished College Administrator Award, which was presented at the International Convention in Dallas by attorney and activist Robert. F. Kennedy, Jr. Dr. Armstrong was also honored as a dignitary by the Native American Coalition of the Quad Cities.

Actively involved in her community, Dr. Armstrong supports the Girl Scouts, The Women's Connection, Trinity Regional Medical Center and the United Way and was a member of the Board of Directors. Looking to the future, Dr. Armstrong plans to continue as a lifelong learner and do her best to make additional contributions to her field and community.

Black Hawk College serves an average of 5,000 students in 56 degree and 48 occupational certificate programs. The institution owns the Outreach Center, the Technology Center in Rock Island and the Community Education Center in Kewanee. Black Hawk operates full-service campuses in Moline and Kewanee, and is affiliated with the Illinois Employment and Training Center in Moline.
