Dr. Kern has 30 years of overall professional experience. A dentist, she is responsible for cosmetic dentistry and gum health for the health and comfort of her patients. Her practice provides oral cancer screenings using VELscope, an incandescent light technology that helps detect any tissue abnormalities not visible to the human eye. She taught at the School of Dentistry of the University of California, Los Angeles, and at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry at the University of Southern California and also worked as a dental hygienist for nine years.

In 2004, Dr. Kern completed graduate studies through the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. She earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1989 from the UCLA School of Dentistry. She is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Academy of Laser Dentistry, the American Dental Association and the Professional Women's Network. Additionally, she is a member of the California Dental Association, the Monterey Bay Dental Society, the Monterey Dental Peer Review Board and the Monterey Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Kern received the Business Excellence Award for Health Care in 2009 from the Monterey Chamber of Commerce. She received the Woman of the Year Award from the Professional Women's Network in 2007.
