Shamim Ahmed Honored for Accomplishments in Education
Shamim Ahmed has worked as a teacher, educational director, assistant principal and supervisor

VALLEY STREAM, NY, November 17, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ --retired educator Shamim Ahmed has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in educational leadership.

Shamim Ahmed was born in India. Her father was a well-known attorney in the town, and she was the fifth of nine children. She received an associate degree from Kamala Raja Girls College and went on to earn an undergraduate degree at Abdullah Women's College, and a bachelor's degree in education at Aligarh Muslim University. At the age of 21, she started her teaching career as the youngest-ever headmistress (as the principals were called) of Maharani Girls Junior High School, which supported 800 students and had a staff of almost 60 people. A year later, Shamim took an extended stay in Karachi and then left for England where she studied for a post graduate diploma in educational psychology at London University.

In 1971, Shamim married a pharmacist and had a daughter. In 1972, the family came to the U.S. Shamim continued to work in education as a teacher, educational director, assistant principal and supervisor from the daycare to high school level until her retirement. In 1979, she earned a post graduate degree in early childhood education from Lehman College, a senior college of The City University of New York. In recognition of her achievements, the Al Noor School presented Shamim with an award for outstanding services, and a head start program recognized her for outstanding service and dedication. She is a member of ICNA and Why Islam.

Shamim has a passion for reading and writing prose and poetry in English and Urdu. Her work has been published in Noor Magazine and Anthology of American Poets. These days, she also incorporates inspirational Quranic verses into one-of-a-kind paintings, which she hopes to market. Twenty percent of the proceeds will be earmarked for charitable causes. In her spare time, she volunteers at local homeless shelters.
