Philip D. Colgan celebrates 28 years of professional fine-arts work in oil painting and portraiture

Etters, PA, November 4, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Philip D. Colgan, Artist, Instructor, Portraitist and Manager of his own studio, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in portraiture.

With 28 years of experience as an artist, instructor, portraitist and restorer, Philip Colgan creates oil-based portraits, landscapes, still-lifes and various other subjects of traditional realism. Portraits, as a specialty, are often accepted on commission; other subjects are sold through galleries. Restoration of antique paintings is another area of Philip's expertise. His amazingly beautiful oil paintings have been shown in some major galleries from coast to coast in the U.S. and Canada. By invitation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives in Pennsylvania, Colgan exhibited his works in the State Capitol Building, the largest display of one artist's work ever held there. His paintings have also been prominently displayed in many national and international competitions. In 2010, at the Art Renewal Center's International Salon Competition, Colgan was chosen as a top-100 finalist of artists from 30 countries. At the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD, the artist won the '''People's Choice'' Award for the past three consecutive years. In 2009, Colgan was chosen as a finalist by ''Artists'' magazine in their international competition. And, at the Tilden Mansion Grand Gallery in New York, NY, the National Arts Club awarded Colgan for his '''work in realism.''

Mr. Colgan was born and raised in a family noted for its artistic and musical talents; his proclivity toward drawing and painting has been present throughout his life. His accuracy in achieving a striking likeness culminated in receiving a first portrait commission at age 12. After just one year of art school, Colgan traveled throughout Western Europe, studying the works of the old masters. This training was put to work in the artist's first studio, where the evolvement of these influences began to show. Not far from the city of Harrisburg, PA., the artist now resides on the west shore of the Susquehanna River, in Etters, Pennsylvania, a scenic area of rolling hills and pastures that continue to provide inspiration for much of his work. Colgan became involved in his profession because of his artistic talent, and he attributes his success to his perseverance and motivation to achieve his goals.

Mr. Colgan's work has been displayed in the Arnot Museum in Elmira, NY; the Susquehanna Art Museum's Doshi Gallery in Harrisburg, PA; the Arts For The Parks competition in Jackson Hole, WY; the Village Square Art Gallery, Ltd., in Carp, Ontario, Canada and Miami, FL; S.R. Brennan Galleries in Scottsdale, AZ, Ogunquit, ME, and Palm Desert, CA; at NYC's Salmagundi Club's 68th Grand National Exhibition of the American Artist's Professional League; the Art Expo at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV; in American Artist magazine's National Juried Competition; at the National Portrait Competition at The Portrait Institute, in New York, NY, and at the American Artist Portrait Society Convention in Philadelphia, PA. Philip Colgan is a member of The Art School and Galleries of Mechanicsburg, PA, and The Art Association of Harrisburg, PA.
