Elizabeth M. Clark Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Maritime Leadership
A veteran ship captain, Ms. Clark has sailed around the world hundreds of times over the course of her four-decade career
LIGHTHOUSE POINT, FL, October 7, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Elizabeth M. Clark, First National Vice President of The Council of American Master Mariners, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in maritime leadership.
With 42 years of experience as an officer in the Navy and the Merchant Marine, Elizabeth M. Clark is a respected authority on break bulk and container ship operations. She has spent most of her career with Isthmian Lines, Inc., a break bulk shipping company, and Sealand Service, Inc., a containership company that specializes in the marine transportation of passengers and cargo in Merchant Marine vessels. She is also a member of The Council of American Master Mariners, an association of experienced ship masters that are committed to the promotion of nautical education, the improvement of training standards and the support of the publication of professional literature. The council monitors, comments, and takes positions on local, state, federal and international legislation and regulation that affect the master. They also supply expert witnesses for maritime litigation. As first national vice president, Ms. Clark is responsible for supporting the council president, writing articles for the quarterly magazine and screening new membership applications for the council.
A veteran ship captain, Ms. Clark has sailed around the world hundreds of times over the course of her four-decade career. She provided support to the United States Armed Forces during the Vietnam War and led her ships into dangerous waters on many occasions. She continues to work with the United States Coast Guard, conducting public safety boating classes, providing special training for the Coast Guard, and teaching AED and CPR classes. Greatly respected by her peers, Ms. Clark has been honored with numerous medals and awards for her service in the Navy and as a captain on the high seas. She attributes her success to hard work, determination, and the support that she received from the crews of her ships.
Ms. Clark is a certified airline transport pilot, a certified flight and ground instructor for both airplane and instruments, a certified CPR instructor, and a certified search and rescue instructor. Additionally, she holds a bachelor of science from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, earned in 1959, and a certification in advanced cardiac life support. In addition to The Council of American Master Mariners, Ms. Clark is active in a host of professional organizations. These include the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, the International Organization of Masters, Mates & Pilots, the International Federation of Shipmasters' Associations, and Coast Guard District 7, which she has served as chief qualification examiner.
Within the next five years, Ms. Clark aspires to become the president of The Council of American Master Mariners.
